Jarvis McKinley

Jarvis (Jai) McKinley is from Hattiesburg, MS. He began his dance training at The Dance Place and Pine Belt Youth Ballet at age 6. His dance education continued with Virginia School of the Arts where he was granted a four-year scholarship throughout high school and awarded the Margaret Fonteyn Award from his Ballet Master Petrus Boseman.  Jai went on to receive a full scholarship to attend the National Dance Institute in Santa Fe, NM, — under the direction of Jacques d' Amboise —  and earn an Associate of Arts Certification in Dance at New World School of the Arts (full scholarship). He has trained with the Kirov Ballet Academy, Jacobs Pillow, Bates Dance Festival, and the Ailey School as well.

In 2008 Jai joined Ailey II. After finishing his contract with Ailey he became a soloist at Armitage Gone Dance in 2010. He has also danced with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, under the direction of Dwight Rhonden and Desmond Richardson, and traveled and performed with the Broadway’s Tony Award winning show Memphis The Musical and Flashdance the Musical with choreographer Sergio Trujillo.

Jai has danced works by many well-world choreographers such as Alvin Ailey, William Forsythe, Robert Battle, Judith Jamison, Christopher L. Huggins, Francesca Harper. He has also danced with music's best artists such as Usher Raymond, Jojo, KiCi & Jojo, and The Dream.

Jai joined 6 o'Clock Dance Theatre as the Assistant Rehearsal Director in March 2022.
